Destination Engagement | Rome, Italy – Justine + Nick

We were flying out of our hometown airport in Grand Rapids, MI, to a photography workshop in Italy, when fate brought us together with Nick. We had a panic moment when our camera bags wouldn’t fit in the overhead bin because the plane was too small so we were required to gate-check them. Let me just say, that’s a nerve-wracking feeling because we don’t EVER let these bags out of our sight! But that also meant we had to somehow pull all of our batteries out of these bags because these can’t go below. Believe me, that’s a lot! But what this panic packing of batteries did, was start up a conversation with the gentlemen that happened to be sitting behind us on the flight and heading to Italy as well. Needless to say, we booked an engagement session on our flight over and Nick and Justine were so excited to be able to capture some photos from their time in Italy.

As with any photography session in a busy city, you need to be in the hotspots before everyone else wakes up. For us we met at the Spanish Steps (Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti) just after sunrise at 7:30 am, and there was virtually no one around. By the time we were wrapping up the city was waking up and so was the rain! Fate had our back once again, because within an hour of finishing the session, the skies just opened up.

There is just nothing more beautiful than the warmth of the Italian sunshine at sunrise on the beautiful brownstone buildings. It adds such a romantic warmth like nothing you would find in America. This is the beauty of having a destination engagement session, you get to enjoy the beauty and romance of another culture and capture those precious moments in photographs.
